Learn to Worship God in Spirit & Truth as Jesus instructs us to do!
The most common question that is asked when one Christian encounters another believer today is usually: "Where do you go to church?" Unfortunately this is not what is most important when it comes to worshiping God which Jesus emphasized during His famous conversation with the women at the well. John 4:19-24 records His instruction to this Samaritan women as follows:
"Sir," the woman said, "I see that You are a prophet. Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews say that the place where one must worship is in Jerusalem."
"Believe Me, woman," Jesus replied, "a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. You worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. But a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for the Father is seeking such as these to worship Him. God is Spirit, and His worshipers must worship Him in spirit and in truth."
As Jesus teaches us all here what is important is not where we worship God, which applies to the physical building as well as the type of church denomination we attend, but rather how we worship God! When Jesus says we must worship God "in spirit and in truth" He elevates our worship to more than just some physical rituals we do in a church building somewhere. What is always most important to God is what is in our heart when we worship Him which is why He rebukes worship that is about anything else in scriptures like Isaiah 29:13: "These people say they are mine. They honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. And their worship of me is nothing but man-made rituals they were taught by other people."
To worship God "in spirit and in truth" means to connect with God from the depths of our soul transcending the limitations of our present physical world to be in spiritual union with our God Who is Spirit just as Jesus said. So when we greet our fellow Christians in this fallen world let us not concern ourselves so much with where we attend church but rather How We Worship Our GREAT AND GLORIOUS GOD Who desires that we come to Him in Spirit & Truth!
